Bellingham Power Choice announces new 12-month electricity prices starting in December
The Town of Bellingham announced new 12-month prices for Bellingham Power Choice, its municipal electricity program, starting in December. Standard is 14.850 cents per kWh and Green is 17.550 cents per kWh; participants need not act.
The Town of Bellingham announced Nov. 3 that Bellingham Power Choice, the town's municipal electricity buying program, will move to new 12-month prices in December as its current electricity supply contract ends and a new one begins.
The town said changes in the electricity market have increased prices overall, but most participants will still pay less than their utility's current residential and commercial/small business Basic Service prices. The town chose a 12-month contract to secure competitive pricing without locking participants into higher prices for several years. It said the program has saved Bellingham customers more than $5.7 million compared with utility Basic Service prices since it launched in 2017.
New fixed prices for December 2026 through December 2027:
Power Choice Standard: 14.850 cents per kilowatt-hour. This is lower than residential and commercial/small business prices for National Grid and Eversource. Most participants are enrolled in this option.
Power Choice Green: 17.550 cents per kilowatt-hour. It will continue to provide electricity that is 100% from new renewable sources in the New England region.
Utility Basic Service prices are fixed through Jan. 31, 2027. National Grid charges 17.185 cents per kilowatt-hour for residential and 15.568 cents for commercial. Eversource charges 17.323 cents for residential and 16.761 cents for small business. Because future utility prices are not known, the town said savings beyond Jan. 31, 2027, cannot be guaranteed.
No action is required of current participants. The price change will happen automatically in December, and the new price will appear on January electric bills. The supplier remains Gridwealth Electric, and bills will continue to show "Gridwealth-Bellingham Power Choice."
Participation is not required. Participants can choose a different option or leave the program at any time with no fee or penalty. Those who want to make a change before the new prices take effect should submit their request no later than 14 days before their December meter read date, which is listed on the November electric bill.
Residents can learn more, change options or opt out at the program website, BellinghamPowerChoice.com, or by calling customer support at 844-241-8595.
