BELLINGHAM — Parks Commission backed trash receptacle upgrade proposal. It supported Department of Public Works Director Jesse Riedle's proposal to replace trash receptacles at four town parks with decorative barrel-style bins at approximately $740 each, for a total estimated cost of about $11,000. Parks Commissioner Doug Martin raised staffing concerns; Director Riedle noted the new barrels would be easier to empty and could be funded through unused salary funds or capital funds.
The commission also discussed seasonal hiring challenges and Macy Playground improvements targeted for spring completion. Chairperson William L. Roberts raised concerns about e-bikes at Silver Lake, prompting the Parks Department to contact police about signage.
