Planning Board continues hearing on 1,600-unit housing development

Bellingham Planning Board hears 1,600-unit age-restricted development amid public safety concerns. The board opened continuation hearing on the NECC Holdings project at 180 Paine Street, where Fire Chief stated he needs additional review time and noted neighboring communities are not viable for mutual aid; Police Chief raised traffic and access-gate concerns. Applicant Andrew Flynn requested a working session with public officials.
The board continued hearings on a commercial development at 455 Hartford Avenue and Blackstone Street improvements, voted unanimously to classify a Maple Street modification as major, and voted 3-2 to allow middle units as affordable housing in Whitman Acres.
