Select Board backs exploration of Development Improvement Districts for Hartford Avenue

Selectboard · Meeting of May 18, 2026

Bellingham Select Board explores Development Improvement Districts to fund Hartford Avenue improvements. Town Administrator Joseph Laydon outlined a $5.8 million shortfall for the Hartford Avenue traffic project after the Town secured $5.5 million in grant funding and expects $2.66 million from WS. Board Chair Michael Hennessy and members supported Laydon consulting with experts in implementing similar programs, noting that demonstrating a financing path could improve state assistance prospects given anticipated traffic from new warehouses in Hopedale and Mendon.

The bid for Hartford Avenue improvements expires July 22, with Board update scheduled June 15.
