Select Board approves 12.5 percent trash rate increase for fiscal 2027
Selectboard · Meeting of July 6, 2026
BELLINGHAM — Select Board votes 4 to 1 on 12.5 percent trash rate hike. Vice Chair Don Martinis moved to increase rates by 12.5 percent for fiscal 2027 to address a $127,000 enterprise fund deficit and build retained earnings for recycling center improvements, and the board approved his motion with Michael Hennessy, Cody Spencer, and Jennifer Altomonte voting yes and Kim O'Neal voting no. Correcting a multi-family billing loophole will generate approximately $40,000 in additional revenue.
The board declined to commit to multi-year rate increases, directing further evaluation of the recycling center's operations before setting future-year adjustments.
